About the Rotaract Club of Marikina West "Junior Golden Westerners"
|
|
The year was 1984, 11th of
November when the young professional sons and daughters of the Rotarians
of Marikina West formed what they call the "Rotaractors of the Golden West
Juniors" or the "Rotaract Club of Marikina West". It was this year
then they "Discovered a New World of Service." Names that require
mentioning are Gose, Magno and PDRR Malou Bacay-Vargas who
stirred up the club to start. From 1984 to 1989 the club was
able to produce District Rotaract Representative, the highest post in the
District of Rotaract Clubs. They were PDRR Andrew Isidoro and
Malou Bacay-Vargas.
It was sad to
note though, that the club went into dormancy from 1989 to 1992.
There was a low turnout of membership. Some members got
busy advancing their professional
careers.
But like any dormant
volcano, the club woke up with a bang. With the help of the sponsoring Rotary Club of Marikina West led by PP Abe Aboga, Past
Rtn. Ray Samson and PP Pol Viola, the Rotaract Club of Marikina West
was revived. The seniors thought that "Real Happiness is Helping
Others."
The club's first
organizational meeting was held at the Rotary Multi-Purpose Hall on the
17th of January 1992. The induction was done the following day
during the sponsoring club's weekly meeting at Shakey's Katipunan inducted
as president was Albert Isidoro who stirred the club until the mid of
Rotary Year 1992. After which Erwin Valdez took over. The club
participated in the Baguio DISCON '92, their first out of town
activity. From then on, the club contributed a lot to community
projects. One of which was the painting of the humps and street
gutters of the whole street of St. Mary Ave. in Provident Village,
Marikina City.
The club was so
engrossed in helping their constituents that they "Believe in What They Do
and They Do What They Believe In." And so the changing of
leaders of the club took place for another Rotary Year
1993-1994. Induction was held on the 23rd of August 1993 at the
weekly meeting of its sponsoring club in Shakey's Katipunan. The new
captain of the ship PP Rhandy Ramos continued the goals of the
club. They had their memorable project when they visited the
Bahay San Jose in Tagaytay. With the support of RAC Chairman
PP Pol Viola and PP Bernie Niverba, the club went to DISCON '94
in Los Banos, Laguna and participated in their first International
Rotaract Pre-convention in Taipei, Taiwan. PDRR Andrew
Isidoro and Pres. Rhandy Ramos brought honors and prestige to
Marikina West by winning the silver medal in the Taiwan Rotary Dragon Boat
Festival.
Friendship to the world did
not stop there. And so "Being a Friend to Others and to the
World" is what PDRR Andrew Isidoro had in mind when he took charge of
the club. Induction this time was held separately at the Rotary
Multi-Purpose Hall. The ever supportive RAC Chair Louie
Gonzalez and PP Bernie Niverba was at hand to congratulate the new
set of officers. Activities include teaching the community of helping save
others through the "Help Save a Life
Someday" project. CPR was taught not only within the
community but as far as Arayat, Pampanga High School. "Drive
Safely Because We Care", present the club's memorabilia project sign board
situated at the village gate. DISCON '95 in Villa Virginira
Resort, Antipolo has never been the same again for the club co-hosted and
co-sponsored the event with its neighboring partner club, the
RAC Marikina Hilltop. It also gave birth again for the
third time a District Rotaract Representative from Marikina
West. PDRR Andrew Isidoro was voted as DRR nominee for the
next term.
The club continued to
burn in "Acting With Their Integrity, Serving With Love and Working for
Peace", within the community and the world. PP Ryan Nachura
took the helm in another Rotary Year of service. Thus,
induction was held again at the Rotary Multi-Purpose Hall together with
other supportive sponsoring Rotarians. PP Ryan Nachura was
a pride of the club at that time since he is the son of Undersecretary Ed
Nachura of DECS. PP Ryan was able to revive the Community
Christmas Tree project and playground clean
up.
The club continued to "Build
Their Futures with Their Actions and Visions." The club finally
thought that it's about time a lady president will lead the club unders it
new Lady President Daisy Alegado. But the lady president had
other plans besides the club and that is to pursue her college degree
career. And so in the mid-Rotary Year, the members thought it's the
end of the era of a lady club president. Acting President Amelia
Isidoro and Claire Fantone took over and had proven to the club and the
district that a lady club president could likewise be as efficient as a
male club president. No doubt the club members were overjoyed
upon learning that incoming President Claire Fantone finally accepted the
clutches of club presidency for Rotary Year 1997-98. As early
as now, she is showing that she really cares for the club and the
community as well. So on the 3rd of August 1997, a new era of
club presidency will take place. A fine young, energetic and
intellectual lady and an officer will man the ship of the Rotaract Club of
Marikina West, Rotaractors for the Rotary Year
1997-98.
Kudos to the club and to its
members for the turn of the next term is about to unfold.
