Fleas
"More of as problem with urban rather than rural areas, hedgehog fleas are noticeable because they are so large (see left). You can see them between the spines, where they usually live. If you see fleas jumping off a hedgehog, it means the animal is in a poor state. As a rule, remove or kill all fleas because they can carry disease to other hedgehogs. Ticks
"Ticks are fairly common, particularly Ixodes hexagonus (see femail, left). Remove ticks carefully - if you leave the head or mouth parts in the skin they could cause infection. Clean the wound with Calendula."
