Hiroko
Seki is a world-class artist from Japan now residing in the West.
A recognized master of both painting and ikebana flower arranging,
her unique and original works reflect the mystic power of nature,
purified by clarity and simplicity. Her paintings are done on folding
screens, silk, paper, foil and wood. Each is created from in mineral
pigments; crushed rock, powdered metals and minerals fixed with heated
ancient natural binders. The minerals react in their own act of nature,
creating along with the artist. From these natural materials the master
reinterprets nature. The result is simple, powerful, modern asian
art-- inviting the beholder beyond.

Hiroko Seki's apprenticeship and master work span more than 30 years.
It has comprised work in sumi, pigment and dyes, as well as the more
conventional paints. She has trained traditionally with paper, textiles,
wood and flowers. Her designs reach out beyond fine art to include
the utilitarian.
